About

I am a graphic designer. I was employed full time at a graphic design position in the early 2000s.

Since quitting, I have done some freelance odd jobs here and there, but I hope to get another full time graphic design position eventually. I only started job hunting in the last few months (around June 2014).

I quit my last full time graphic design position due to several factors, including:

1. being bullied and harassed by one supervisor who was a lot like Dilbert’s awful “pointy haired boss” – only it was a “pointy haired she” – not a man

(my former boss was a micro manager, office politician, anal retentive, humorless* all around jerk, and a totally computer and internet illiterate, which made for a very frustrating experience and a horrible work environment – maybe more on that in a future post)

*When I say she was “humorless,” that would be with the exception of the amusement she derived from harassing subordinates, including myself.

2. my mother was diagnosed with cancer and other health issues, and I was needed to help give her full time care (she died a few years ago)

3. my relationship with my then-fiance (we broke up years ago) was a source of stress

I could not pull off a balancing act of dealing with prolonged harassment by one boss at the job, along with caring for a cancer-ridden mother, in addition to a stressful relationship with a fiance’ (who is now an ex).

One of my reasons for creating this blog:

I have noticed that – based on “job wanted: graphic designer” ads I see on job boards and newspaper job wanted sections, a lot of companies are really clueless about what graphic design is. I plan on mostly blogging about that, and giving the weird or stupid examples I see.

The introduction post to the genre of “Job Not Wanted” posts at my blog can be found here, “Food Store Graphic Design Position – Job Not Wanted”
